Parent Portal & School Fusion
The Wolfpack Advisory Council is seeking some parent input on the use of School Fusion and Parent Portal. Our goal is to gather some data in order to make these two items more useful to parents and students. At this time, we are asking that ONLY PARENTS complete a quick survey by following the link below. A separate survey will be available for students to complete. Thank you so much for your help!
Sports Calendars
Current athletic calendars for the Winter and Spring Athletic Seasons are located under the Sports & Clubs link on the top navigation bar of the LRMS website. They are also included in the LRMS Newsletters located under the News & Reminders link on the left side navigation bar of the LRMS website. If you have questions about specific events or schedule changes, please refer to Coach Pages under Sports & Clubs for updates and announcements or contact the coach directly.
Bus 281 at Capacity

It has come to the attention of LRMS that Bus 281 is at capacity with student riders. As a result, LRMS will no longer be able to approve any requests for bus passes for students who are not assigned to ride Bus 281 until further notice. NJHS Peer Tutoring

The National Junior Honor Society is pleased to offer free peer tutoring after school on most Thursdays, beginning November 14, from 2:45-3:45 in Room B-6.  Students may sign up to receive help with Math, Science, Social Studies, Language Arts, French, or Spanish.  The tutors are 8th grade students who are members of NJHS. Interested students must sign up outside Room B-6 no later than Wednesday of each week they plan to stay for tutoring and bring plenty to work on for the hour long tutoring session.
News Club

The first LRMS News Club meeting will be held on Thursday, October 17th, from 2:45 to 3:45 in room D-1 and is open to all grade levels. Students will report on school-related events for LRMS and will have an opportunity to collaborate and practice writing, editing, interviewing, image processing, and web publishing skills. Subsequent meetings will be held monthly on the second Thursday of the month throughout the school year according to the schedule below, the exceptions being February 6 and March 6, 2014:

Parent Portal & School Fusion Help

Parents and students, if you need to change your email address, change your password, or retrieve a forgotten password, you may do so through your self-service Parent Portal user account. Please use the Parent Portal > General Information link on the left side navigation bar of the LRMS home page for details and instructions.

Music Concert Schedule

The LRMS Music Concert Schedule for the 2013-2014 school year has been finalized. Please click here to see the schedule of all music events including dates, times, and teachers for all grade levels and music classes. If you have questions, please contact your child's music teacher.
ATTENTION: New Secured-Entrance Procedures

To ensure the safety of all students and staff, Prince William County Schools have installed a new security system at designated schools. Beginning Friday, November 1, 2013, all visitors to Lake Ridge Middle School will be required to use the secured entrance located at the front door. In order to enter the building, all visitors must press the button on the monitor located to the right of the front doors. Visitors will be asked to state the purpose of their visit after which the door will be remotely unlocked. Once in the building, procedures for signing in or dismissal for students will remain the same. We appreciate your patience as we familiarize ourselves with this new system and our efforts to ensure the safety of all of our students and staff.

Speech & Debate Club

The LRMS Speech & Debate Club meets after school on Wednesdays until 3:30 in room B-5. Club participants need to make sure they have a ride at 3:30. Please check with Mr. Dent or Ms. Willis for more information.
Safe Routes to School

PWCS and the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) are working together to support and promote safe walking and biking routes to schools in our area through a program called Safe Routes to School (SRTS). If you would like to participate in a short online survey to provide information in support of the program, please visit the PWCS Health & PE Department page to access our school's survey. For more information about the program, you may visit the VDOT SRTS website or click here for a letter from the PWCS Safe Routes to School Coordinator.
Admission to Athletic Events

As outlined in the PWC Athletic Handbook, please note the following ticket prices for all school athletic events:
~ Adults - $3.00 (regional events - $5.00)
~ High school students - $1.00
~ Middle school students - $1.00
~ Elementary school students - $1.00 (K-5)
~ Senior citizens (age 60+) - no charge
Admission will be charged for all sports events. For a single contest event, ticket prices will be charged through the end of the first half of the event. For a double contest, collection will be through half-time of the second contest. For all wrestling events, ticket prices will be collected throughout the full contest. If a students leaves the building during an indoor athletic event, they must pay to return to the event.
Student Agenda

A digital version of the LRMS Student Agenda for school year 2013-2014 is now available. Please click here for a copy of the handbook containing important information regarding the school calendar, attendance, bus regulations, clubs and activities, discipline regulations, the grading system, and a variety of other topics. Students will be issued a paper version during the first week of school.
Sports Tryout Requirements

With the Fall Sports Season beginning in September, it's time for students and parents to start thinking about athletic requirements for sports team tryouts, including a new sports physical form and concussion education training. Please click here for additional information regarding LRMS athletic requirements for sports team tryouts.

Student Accident Insurance

Student accident insurance will be available for parents to enroll their students for next year on July 1. Markel (PWCS student accident insurance provider) has established an electronic enrollment process through their website at This website will allow parents to:

~ View all of the coverage and premium options
~ Review a "Frequently Asked Questions" section
~ Purchase the insurance using a credit/debit card
~ Receive an instant and printable confirmation of purchase

Transfer Requests

Transfer Requests are no longer being accepted for the 2013-2014 school year. The deadline was April 30th for all new or renewal applications.
Student Transportation

Parents who transport their children to school by car may use either entrance to the school grounds. Please be aware that cars are not permitted in the bus circle and school personnel will direct you to the upper parking lot to drop off your child. We ask for your cooperation in making this a smooth process in the morning.
Cell Phones

Cell phones must be off and not visible during school hours. Students may not use their cell phones during the day unless granted permission for academic purposes. Confiscated cell phones and other electronic equipment must be retreived by a parent or guardian.
Activity Buses

Beginning on October 1st, activity buses will run on Tuesdays and Thursdays and depart LRMS at approximately 4PM. There are two activity buses that service LRMS boundaries. Activity buses do not service the extended areas for transfer students living outside the normal LRMS boundaries with the exception of the Chinn Center stop. Activity bus schedules will be available in the front office.

Parent Portal & School Fusion

Previously Registered Users: Parents and students who had user accounts last year should be able to log in to Parent Portal and School Fusion with the same usernames and passwords from last year. If you have forgotten your username or password, or if you have an inactive account, please contact Ms. Griffin.

New Users: The Parent Portal allows parents and students to view student grades and attendance. School Fusion allows parents and students to view class pages containing information about classroom activities, homework, and assignments. Registration for the Parent Portal will allow access to both the Parent Portal and School Fusion. Only parents need to register online; students will automatically receive an account for both systems. Parents who have not yet registered for Parent Portal should use the left side "Parent Portal" navigation button to access additional information about the Portal and the registration process. In a nutshell, here are the steps you will need to follow:
  1. Register for an account online
  2. Expect to receive an email with your username and password
  3. Bring a copy of the email to LRMS with valid ID
  4. Wait to receive notification via email that your account has been activated

Early Dismissal Policy

To ensure an efficient and safe dismissal for all students during the school year, the office will not dismiss individual students after 2:20 pm. Students leaving early must be picked up no later than 2:20 pm.
Visitor Procedures

As part of the PWCS Divisionwide safety initiative, LRMS utilizes an electronic visitor identification system to help ensure the safety of all students and staff. When a visitor arrives at school, he/she will be required to provide a government-issued ID which is held until the visitor signs out. The PWCS Code of Behavior is now primarily an online document and printed copies will not be distributed to families this year. You may download electronic copies of the document by clicking on the following links:

Dress Code

Lake Ridge Middle School does have a dress code. Clothing should cover all undergarments with all shirts having a defined sleeve. Midriffs, revealing sundresses with thin straps, tank tops, tube tops, halters, see-through blouses, pajamas, slippers, shirts that reveal cleavage, spandex pants, spandex shorts, spandex skirts, and hats/visors/bandanas are not appropriate for school. Pants/shorts must be secured so at no time undergarments are revealed. Shorts and skirts must be at least finger-tip length as measured by the individual’s arm by his or her side. Backpacks with wheels are not permitted.
